INDIAN CULTURAL ADVENTURE

Enjoy a cultural journey examining the customs, ceremonies, and everyday lives of the Cahuilla Indians as you tour a historically accurate replica Cahuilla Village, situated on the registered archeological site of the ancient Cahuilla village of Palteewet. The Village includes a depiction of the water manipulation practiced by the tribe, as well as fish traps, dead-fall traps [used for hunting small animals], and metates [grinding stones]. A ceremonial house and kishes [huts] filled with Indian artifacts and interpretive displays showcase the foods, weapons, and tools of the Cahuilla People.

From the village, a short nature walk takes you into a beautiful natural palm oasis where your expert naturalist guide will explain why the Cahuilla chose to live on the San Andreas Fault and how they survived in the harsh desert environment. You will be fascinated as your guide describes how the Cahuilla used the desert plants for food and medicinal purposes and you will be amazed to learn how many of these plants are now studied in pharmaceutical laboratories for modern day uses.
