Nature Painting Workshop

A Hands-On “Plein Air” Painting Experience on the San Andreas Fault

En plein air is a French expression which means "in the open air". This term is used to describe the act of painting in the outside environment rather than indoors. Learn the plein air art form from Clonard and Bruce Thomas - internationally renowned artists who have painted, taught and lectured across the USA and Europe. Both hold advanced degrees in art and art history and have 30 years of experience to share. Artists have long painted outdoors. In the 1870’s the popularity of painting en plein air increased with the introduction of paints in tubes. French Impressionist painters such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir advocated en Plein air painting, and much of their work was done outdoors.

This class includes a personal watercolor set for each participant and everything needed to create a work of art. Clonard and Bruce will share their years of art experience and help each guest create a masterpiece. Everyone will leave with a matted work of art and equipment to continue their life as an artist.
