Our award-winning expert naturalist guides are the heart of the Desert Adventures experience. Famous around the world for their extensive knowledge and storytelling skills, Desert Adventures guides will amaze you by their passion and ability to share their love of the desert.
Because our guides are our product, we take extreme pride and care in hiring, training, and retaining staff that represent Desert Adventures in a positive and responsible manner.
To ensure the highest quality and standards among our guide team:
All applicants who are selected to join our guide team must demonstrate an intense love and passion for our desert and the desire and ability to share their love and passion with others.
All of our guides are required to complete an extensive and rigorous training program covering flora, fauna, geology, earthquakes, plate tectonics, agriculture, aquaculture, Native American culture, pioneer history, and much more. Our training program involves classroom sessions, field training, and independent study and the average guide spends at least three months in training before they are certified to conduct tours with guests. After a full year as a successful Desert Adventures guide, each junior guide is honored with a ‘graduation’ ceremony and given an Indian name which signifies something special about his or her particular personality, skills, or characteristics.
Our guides receive on-going training and enrichment. All of our guides are continually updating their skills and knowledge through field trips, workshops, lectures, study groups, and independent study to ensure that their tour information is accurate and authentic and that your eco-adventure with us truly memorable.
Our guides also receive training in low-impact travel and they are responsible for educating our guests about the importance of travelling responsibly and in ways that minimize their impact on the natural environment.
To ensure our client’s safety, all of our guides are required to maintain current First Aid and CPR certification and they are all drug and alcohol tested regularly.
