INDIAN CANYONS JEEP & HIKING TOUR

Climb aboard one of our Big Red Jeeps for a visit to the ancestral home of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, where stunning rock formations and the contrasting greens of magnificent fan palms and more than 150 species of plants beckon travelers to the lush palm oases of the Palm Springs Indian Canyons.

  • Your professional guide will educate and entertain you with stories about the history, culture, lifestyle, and legends of the Cahuilla people.
  • In Andreas Canyon, enjoy a guided 1-mile hike on a tranquil trail along the banks of Andreas Creek as your guide describes the ceremonies and legends of the Cahuilla people and explains how they used the desert’s plants for survival.
  • View one of the largest natural palm oases in North America from the rim of Palm Canyon.
  • Enjoy a short walk to a hidden water cave where the water flows most of the year.
  • At the end of your adventure, relax, refresh, and shop for unique gifts and souvenirs at the Indian Trading Post which features Indian art and artifacts, books, jewelry, pottery, baskets, weavings, refreshments, and more.

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT an off-road tour. If you are looking for an off-road / 4WD experience, we recommend one of our San Andreas Fault Jeep Tours or our Mecca Hills / Painted Canyon Jeep Tour.

THINGS TO BRING:

  • Wear closed-toe shoes with rubber soles (such as tennis shoes or hiking boots). Sandals and shoes with high heels are not recommended.
  • Wear comfortable clothing – we recommend you dress in layers as desert temperatures can change quickly. In the cooler months (November through March), we suggest you bring a light sweater or jacket.
  • Don’t forget your camera or video camera – the photo opportunities are amazing!

Great tour for tourists as well as 'weekend residents'

Took the Indian Canyon Tour with Carlos as our guide. We live in PS part-time and I wanted to introduce our grandsons from LA, to the area. All three of us had a great time and learned a lot. This is such a fascinating area: The geology and formation of the "valley", the fault lines, tectonic plates, the sheer beauty of the surroundings. The private jeep tour covers all that plus plant life, Indian tribal history etc. It includes a couple of short hikes, that are amazing and informative. However, they do require a basic level of fitness. I would highly recommend the Indian Canyon Tour to anyone who is interested in learning more about the area - from 8-80 years. The boys and I loved it.””

"We did two tours with them last week, and I'm sorry we did not have more time. We did Indian Canyons, and San Andreas Fault. They were absolutely great. Morgan Levine was our tour guide on both trips, and she was an encyclopedia of knowledge, but in a really fun way. Everyone on the tour seemed to have a great time. She made it fun for all. We'll be back, and will ask for Morgan as our guide. She made both tours a real great time for all. Hats off to Desert Adventures, and Morgan.””

Fun, While Learning

"Three of my colleagues and I took the Indian Canyon and Hiking tour this past week with Morgan as our guide. As this was our first jeep desert tour, we really didn't know what to expect ...but were thoroughly please by the entire experience. Morgan was so knowledgeable about the entire Palm Springs area, as well as the Indian culture. We were never once bored and basically hung on her every word as she explained the Indian rituals as we walked through the beautiful palms and canyon along a gently flowing stream. She showed us plants that they used for medicinal purposes, how they made rope out of the palms and how they ground seed to make flour. It was all so very interesting. My colleagues and I are hosting a conference in Palm Springs in several months and will definitely be recommending that our meeting participants take one of the many tours offered by Desert Adventures on their free afternoon. If all their guides are as professional and knowledgeable as Morgan, our participants will have a wonderful time, regardless of which tour they choose.”
