Journey through the bones of the earth in one of our classic open-air Jeep CJ-8 Scramblers as you explore the labyrinth of cuts and canyons of the San Andreas Fault Zone.
On this adventure you will learn about the plants, animals, geology, and history of the California desert. Take a walk through a slot canyon created by the powerful forces of plate tectonics, water, wind, and time and enjoy spectacular views as your guide describes the geologic forces and local history that shaped the Coachella Valley.
You will also learn how and why the Cahuilla Indians lived along the fault zone and how they built and maintained vibrant communities in this arid and inhospitable environment as you explore a natural palm oasis and tour a recreated Cahuilla Indian Village that sits on the former site of the ancient Cahuilla Village site of Paltewet. Your guide will share stories about the culture and lifestyle of the Cahuilla People as you tour a ceremonial long-house, sweat lodge, and kishes (family huts) adorned with interpretive displays.

Join a naturalist guide for a entertaining, engaging, and educational hike through the twisted and tormented desert badlands landscape of the San Andreas Fault zone at our private and exclusive Metate Ranch sanctuary in the Indio Hills.
You can only access these hiking trails with Red Jeep Tours. A short Jeep ride in one of our classic CJ-8 Scramblers will take you to the trailhead where you'll head off on foot.
Choose from a variety of hikes of varying difficulties. All hikes are customized to your ability and interests and include a professional guide who will share interesting and engaging stories about the geology, plants, and animals of the San Andreas Fault zone.
Journey to the ancestral homeland of Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians where stunning rock formation and the contrasting greens of magnificent California fan palms and more than 150 species of plants beckon travelers to these lush oases. Along the way, your naturalist guide will engage and entertain you with stories about the lifestyle, culture, and beliefs of the Cahuilla Indians, our local Native American Tribe.
Enjoy a guided 1-mile hike on a tranquil trail along the banks of Andreas Creek as your guide describes the ceremonies and legends of the Cahuilla people and explains how they used the desert’s plants for survival.
View one of the largest natural palm oases in North America from the rim of Palm Canyon and enjoy a short walk to a hidden water cave where the water flows most of the year.
NOTE: This is primarily a walking tour. Guests should be in reasonably good physical condition, must be able to get in and out of the Jeep, and must be able to walk at least a mile over uneven terrain. Some light bouldering over medium sized rocks is involved.
The minimum age for children on this tour is 5 years.

Travel through two deserts and the transition zone between two ecosystems on this naturalist-guided tour to a vast wilderness area filled with jumbled boulders and the Park’s iconic Dr. Seuss-esque Joshua Trees.
Guests departing from the Greater Palm Springs area will enjoy a narrated tour of the Coachella Valley and learn about the wind and solar energy generated from the San Gorgonio Pass wind and solar farms. Guests may also join the tour in the high desert communities of Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, or Joshua Tree.
Guests will spend a full three hours exploring the Park and learning about the plants and animals of the high desert and rich history of the area.
Take in the spectacular view at the Key’s View Overlook, which offers a stunning viewpoint from 5,185 ft. in elevation where you can see all the way to Mexico on a clear day. Your tour will include several additional stops for photo ops and short nature walks and/or hikes based on guest wants, needs and capabilities.
A picnic lunch in the Park is included.
NOTE: This tour is conducted in a climate controlled van or SUV, not an open-air Jeep. This is not an off-road tour.

Experience sheer canyon walls, fascinating geology, local agriculture, scenic vistas, abundant desert flora, and amazing hiking options on this 4×4 back-country adventure.
Journey to the eastern end of the Coachella Valley where you will find yourself immersed in our area’s second largest industry: agriculture. Depending on the time of year and growing conditions, you may see fields of artichokes, cauliflower, bell peppers, dates, table grapes, and citrus to name just a few of the crops grown locally. As you rise above the agricultural basin and cross the beautiful Coachella canal, you will be afforded with a magnificent view of the awe-inspiring Salton Sea.
As you leave the pavement and enter the majestic Mecca Hills Wilderness Area, you will be amazed by the lunar-like landscape, reminiscent of Star Trek. Journey into the spectacular Painted Canyon and marvel at the billion-year-old rainbow-colored mineral striations towering above you.
Choose from one of several walks or hikes through the canyons, ranging from an easy nature walk to the Indian Jones Hike or the Hike of Death! While your guide may take you to see the ladders in the Painted Canyon are, a ladder hike is not included due to it’s length and difficulty.
NOTE: The on-road journey to Painted Canyon takes approximately 60 minutes each way. In Painted Canyon, you will spend most of your time out of the Jeep exploring on foot.
